Mother Earth,

Dear Mother Earth,

We have failed you.
Exploited your bounty
Desecrated your beauty
Poisoned your air and sea, soil and atmosphere.

You sent warnings
Raging
storms and floods
plague, heat,
drought and fire
as your web of life ebbed away

More! cried the men
Pushing endless growth
All dressed up in sustainable green
competing for death

Larger than life
We loved you
and stripped you
and left you barren

Perhaps you can breathe again
Heal again
Now that we are gone

Your loving daughter
Eve
