Farn's Letter

To everyone still out there,

I think that our biggest mistake, as a species, was believing that we could own land. It seems arrogant to me - this idea that we can possibly hold dominion over something which will so expertly outlast us.

We cannot own the earth - we are here at her sufferance.

Between me and you, now and then, I promise to do all I can to remember this. I promise to do all I can within the current system to treat Earth with the respect she deserves. And where respect isn't possible within the current system, I promise to try and tear that system down.

Because Earth's sufferance will only last so long - her patience is rightfully waning. I have felt personally chastised by storming winds and flooded ground, and I don't want to go through that again.

By the time you read this I will have been working for some time to appease the wounded Earth. I will have planted trees and flowers, taken courses in how I can use art to make the world a more sustainable place, and I will have learned to better use the gifts we already have.

I hope you're out there, enjoying the fruits of my labour - perhaps literally - instead of buying things to hide behind. And if you're not, and there's not enough trees yet, I need you to do something for me.

Grab a shovel. Dig in. Get planting.
