Rebecca Baxter's Letter

To my Descendants,

Dear Descendants,

The climate crisis is the most important issue facing the world today and I want you to know that I really care about sorting it out. My hope is that you will read this and know that there were people, including your own ancestors, who cared about the world God gave us.

I care for people all over the globe, especially the most powerless and those who are already experiencing the effects of the crisis: people who have been displaced, people whose loved ones have died in floods and fires, people who are suffering from famine.

I am angry as I write this because we knew about the threat of global warming decades ago and we tried our very best to play our part, changing the way that we lived as much as we could. We listened to the Scientists, but are aghast that those in power have been so slow on the uptake, critically endangering your future.

As well as changing our ways, new technology is our best hope and we wish that the Government would invest more into it. We want to see drastically reduced carbon emissions, no new investment in fossil fuels and renewable energy becoming the norm and we have taken that step ourselves with loads of insulation, solar panels, an electric car and very soon a new environmentally-friendly heating system.

We pray that the right changes can be made as soon as possible and live in hope that your future will be more assured than it currently feels.

Yours hopefully,

Rebecca
