Rod Hewson's Letter

My Son Mark,

I am rather old and have enjoyed a comfortable life but have become aware that my indulgent western, developed lifestyle has helped to cause a crisis of our environment and this leaves you with much worse prospects than I had when I was young.
Now I try to live a clean, green life but because of the bad habits I have developed over the years and the way our economy continues to aim for unsustainable growth I fear it is too late to save our planet without a very radical rethink of how we live.
We are proud of our part in developing the Industrial Revolution for instance but now it is apparent that this is unsustainable without radical change. I do not have answers to these problems but hope you will push the government to rethink it's aims and values so that you, along with all mankind, can look forward to a resonable future.
