Sam's Letter

To my second cousin Wilf who lives in New Zealand,,

You're one month old already!

I hope that one day we can go surfing together but you’ll have to learn how to walk & talk first - then become a really good swimmer.

I did lots of swimming in New Zealand when I went on holiday before you were born. The water was lovely and clean. But here in the UK, we are seeing more pollution in our rivers and sewage in the sea. There is also a lot of plastic in the sea and that is a problem all over the world. Many birds and fish are killed when they mistake plastic for food.

I hope that by the time you are older, the seas are cleaner and less polluted.

We must make sure that we recycle everything we can, use less plastic and ask the government to take pollution much more seriously.

Love from

Sam, aged 9
