Trisha Rogers's Letter

Dear Luke, Jake, Elsa and Lara,

You, my grandchildren, are the most important people in the world to me; I very much want you to have a beautiful, healthy and fair world to live in and share with other people and creatures when you are grown up. I have loved taking you to my nearby Thames beaches to build sandcastles and going for bike rides with you in the parks and countryside near where you live. But I’m worried that these places will not still be so beautiful and healthy when you are grown up.

In the United Nations Association of London and the South East Region (UNA LASER) we are trying to ensure that the UN Climate Change Conference (in Egypt in November) helps countries agree on the targets and necessary support for people to stop destroying our planet. We need also to ensure that the UK government follows through on these commitments. And that each of us must learn to live less wasteful and greedy lives.

I hope the Big Green Week will remind people of the urgency of this crucial action at international, national and local levels. I very much look forward to supporting you in your own efforts to live more sustainably and to helping you grow into responsible citizens who will hold our government to account to ensure that it prioritises its environmental policies.

Trisha Rogers
Chair, UNA LASER
